What is TheThirdOption.net (TTO) All About?
TheThirdOption.net took a very long time to form. Back in the summer of 1999 I was in search of an author who I could truly call my favorite; someone that could create a world that I would not want to leave. Sure enough, as I was in the Atlanta airport that summer of '99, I came across this book called 'Transfer of Power'. I read the back of it and said to myself, 'I think I'll give this a shot. Maybe this will be the author who will suck me in to a whole new world?' I purchased the book, walked over to my gate and sat down and cracked it open. And I tell you what, after reading the first chapter, I was hooked, this was the author, the one who had created a world that truly sucked me in.
So how did I decide to create a website for Vince Flynn. Well a few years later, I guess sometime in 2002, I decided that I wanted to learn how to build a website, so I began to teach myself HTML. Then I realized that in order to start creating a site, I should at least know what I'm building it for. So I sat there in my computer chair and realized that hey, you know what, I love Vince Flynn's books, why not create a website for that? I then went online to see what VF had for an official site and I said to myself, 'I can do better...I will do better' (sorry Vince, it was great but I wanted a messageboard)! I wanted a place where fans of VF could come together and discuss his wonderful books and build a close-knit community. So off I went that year working on this site that I would learn how to create. Then as luck would have it, I ended up spending the next two years overseas and did not really have much time to work on it, let alone even having an internet connection. I came back home to the states towards the end of 2004 and said to myself that it is time to finish up this site and get it online. By the time August 2005 rolled around, it was time to put TheThirdOption.net - The World of Vince Flynn on the world wide web. Some of you have been around long enough to see the first design of TTO...what memories huh? Of course BigD (Moderator, who's name was actually something else at the beginning...anyone remember?) was one of the first members along with RandalThor (who is my brother and co-administrator when I am out of pocket). I didn't know what I was doing and was taking a chance and you, the fans, stuck with me throughout and helped build this wonderful community to what you see today.
We came from the day, where I first pestered David Brown (Atria books/Vince Flynn's publicist) about posting my website on their messageboard over at vinceflynn.com, where many of us used to visit. David was kind enough to support this and also supported me in every way by providing up-to-date material about VF and his books, so that I could help advertise to anyone who came across TTO (no matter how few people). Throughout the first year, we grew slowly and then picked up pace the second year, when VF was kind enough to make TheThirdOption.net his official messageboard. Thank you.
As I just briefly mentioned, the entire reason I created this website was to build a community of Vince Flynn fans from all around the world, and provide a place where we could come together to discuss Vince Flynn's books and build a close-knit community. We have done just that, and I hope that if you are new to TheThirdOption.net that you will take the time to sign up as a member and join our community here and help TTO continue to grow throughout the years, supporting Vince Flynn every step of the way.
